Summit Draws Global Audience
May 18, 2021
Last week's two-day Disrupting Poverty Together Summit drew network members, donors, sponsors, and other friends of EMPath for a successful celebration of our work.
Day One
The summit began on May 12 with a day for for our Exchange network members only. Staff from human services agencies across the U.S. — and the world — gathered for a series of workshops and seminars. Topics included emerging leadership, supporting staff executive functioning skills, brave communication, well-being for mentors, and organizational mentoring support for employees. Sessions were led by staff from EMPath and the Center for Human Services.
Day Two
The second day of the summit was open to the public. The day began with a panel, “The Power of Collaboration: Changing the Narrative Together.” EMPath Vice President of Shared Learning and Member Networks Jennifer Lowe moderated a panel with leaders from member organizations Zepf Center (Toledo, OH), AIM (Anderson, SC), Creating Opportunity To Succeed (COTS) (Detroit, MI), and The Family Partnership (Minneapolis, MN). The panel discussed how implementing an approach informed by EMPath’s breakthrough coaching model has supported, improved, and transformed the work they do in their communities.
Later in the afternoon, supporters gathered for a virtual gala to celebrate our shared work and success. Representatives from Exchange members Baby University (Toledo, OH), Community Properties Impact Corporation (Columbus, OH), Enterprising Latinas, Episcopal Community Services (Philadelphia, PA), Restoration House of East Tennessee (Knoxville, TN), and Rung for Women (St. Louis, MO) shared their coaching experiences and their visions for the future.
EMPath Board Member and former program participant LaShauna Walker closed out the gala, sharing, “EMPath has built a model that really, really works. In their most intensive program, participants nearly triple their incomes, going from $16,000 to $46,000 per year. I’m a living testament to that.”
We have raised nearly $90,000 out of our $100,000 goal so far. If you haven’t had a chance to donate yet, please help us reach our goal – and support EMPath’s vital work disrupting poverty across the country – by donating.
Thank you to everyone who attended Day One, Day Two, or both days of the Summit and to everyone who has donated! You helped make our first-ever virtual summit a big success.
